Queensland’s advanced food and agriculture industry

Queensland has a globally competitive agriculture and food sector in a high-performing advanced economy with a tropical and sub-tropical climate close to some of the fastest growing economies in the world. We have the expertise, the ideas and world-class agriculture and food research infrastructure to grow food and fibre in new and sustainable ways.

Almost 90 per cent of land in Queensland is used for agricultural production, and there are more than 30 government-owned agricultural facilities across the state, and a large number of startups. Queensland is well placed to research foods of the future, excelling in the fields of crop optimisation, functional foods, sustainable meat, and future proteins.

Building on this strong record of research-based and industry-led innovation in food and agricultural production, this visualisation shows the relationships between the state’s leading research centres and innovation hubs and how they support the key themes of this emerging sector.
