The Precinct is a partnership between the City of Gold Coast, Griffith University, Gold Coast Health, and the Queensland Government. The GCHKP is already home to Griffith University, ranked in the top 2 percent of universities worldwide; the Gold Coast University Hospital, a major Australian teaching hospital; and the cutting-edge Gold Coast Private Hospital.

The Precinct has more than 1000 researchers and 700 research students, along with internationally regarded clinicians and global companies operating in innovative partnerships with researchers and clinicians. The GCHKP is home to the Institute for Glycomics, the Menzies Health Institute Queensland, the Institute for Integrated and Intelligent Systems, the Centre for Clean Environment and Energy, the Queensland Micro and Nanotechnology Centre, and the Queensland Node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility.
