National Battery Testing Centre

Queensland University of Technology

The National Battery Testing Centre at QUT tests multiple types and sizes of battery systems in real-world conditions. NBTC also has unique capabilities to fabricate and test pilot quantities of custom Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells. NBTC provides nationwide services for: testing of battery systems at cell, module and pack level; validation of battery energy storage systems; safety testing of batteries; development and testing of battery management systems (BMS’s) with standardised communication protocols; and “Plug and play” integration of battery systems with renewable energy microgrids.

Our Centre is a part of the Future Battery Industries CRC that brings together 50 partners from Australian industry (raw materials, minerals, chemical precursors, etc.), Federal and State Governments and academics to support Australia’s developing battery storage industry.
