The Centre is one of the leading multi-disciplinary research institutions of its type in the world dedicated to research, education and outreach activities in road safety. CARRS-Q was established in 1996 with funding from the Motor Accident Insurance Commission of Queensland. It has an explicit commitment to work closely with government and gives priority to developing research to inform policy directions in injury prevention and safety. The Centre's key research domains include: regulation and enforcement; intelligent transport systems and road safety infrastructure; school and community injury prevention; vulnerable road users; and occupational safety
