Mining and resources

A large global exporter of raw and refined commodities, Queensland is recognised internationally for its research in mining, and for providing technological solutions to the global mining industry using robotics, satellite imaging, and three-dimensional (3D) visualisation.

The state is home to a number of institutions and joint ventures working to develop and commercialise innovative new technologies that address current challenges in the industry, with the potential to benefit mining not only in Queensland but globally.

Led by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, the Queensland Government has invested in the future of the mining and resources sector by supporting researchers working in collaboration with leading research institutions and industry to ensure breakthrough research is translated into practical, commercial outcomes.

Queensland has nine universities including three of Australia’s largest. Most of these universities undertake research in the mining and resources sector. Details of 200 plus research centres in Queensland are available by searching the Queensland science capability directory.
